KATHMANDU: Most of the parts of the country are at a ‘standstill’ due to the prohibitory orders. A ban has been imposed in the country since April 30. Imports and exports have not been significantly affected even during the ban this year.

According to the Customs Department, goods worth Rs 1205.4 billion have been imported in the first ten months of the current fiscal year.

This amount is 22.34 percent more than the amount in the same period last year. Goods worth Rs. 108.48 billion were exported during this period. This is an increase of 32.19 percent more than the amount in the same period last year.

10 most imported items

The country has imported diesel worth Rs.70.56 billion in the first ten months of the current fiscal year. It was worth Rs. 75.79 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Similarly, imports of M. S. Willett worth  Rs. 57.54 billion, soybean crude oil Rs.39.46 billion, mobile and telephone Rs. 30.09 billion and LP gas Rs. 29.51 billion were imported in the last 10 months.

Similarly, petrol was imported at Rs 26.88 billion, readymade garments at Rs 26.12 billion, rice at Rs 23.39 billion, coal at Rs 22.39 billion and polythene grains at Rs 21.76 billion.

Import doubles

Imports of MS Willet, soybean oil and mobile phone sets have doubled even during the global Corona epidemic.

Imports of mobile phone sets are estimated to have doubled in the past 10 months since educational institutions began operating virtual classes.

Mobile phones worth Rs 32 billion have been imported in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. Mobile phones worth Rs 14.68 billion were imported in the same period last year.

Soybean crude oil imports stood at Rs 14.2 billion in the first ten months of the previous fiscal year compared to Rs 39.46 billion in the same period of the current fiscal year.

Imports of MS Wallet increased from Rs 35.42 billion in the first ten months of the last fiscal year to Rs 57.48 billion in the corresponding period of the current fiscal year.

Soybean oil in the top list of exports

According to the data released by the department, refined soybean oil is number one on the export list.

In the first ten months of the current fiscal year, 215.1 million kg of refined soybean oil worth Rs 35.75 billion has been exported. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, 63.4 million kg of refined oil worth Rs. 8.36 billion was exported.

The demand for cardamom in the world market has also gone high.

In the first ten months of the current fiscal year, 7.5 million kg of cardamom worth Rs. 5.99 billion has been exported. 4.1 million kg cardamom worth Rs. 3.34 billion was exported in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In addition to them, synthetic yarn worth Rs 6.36 billion, carpet worth Rs 5.58 billion, readymade garments worth Rs 4.39 billion, jute cloth worth Rs 3.53 billion and tea worth Rs 3.35 billion were exported.

Similarly, fruit juice worth Rs 3.35 billion, cotton cloth worth Rs 3.34 billion and other textiles (wool, cotton) worth Rs 2.74 billion have been exported.
