Opposition parties filing writ against House dissolution at SC today



KATHMANDU: The opposition party leaders are filing a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) against Prime Minister KP Oli’s move to dissolve the parliament today.

Maoist Center leader Barsha Man Pun said they will be registering the writ today as the signature collection of lawmakers had not been completed Sunday.

He also claimed that most of the lawmakers’ signatures had been collected and it was already enough for a majority.

Pun said signatures of leaders of UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal faction had yet to be collected. As many as 18 lawmakers from UML Nepal faction were present at Singha Durbar, where signatures were being collected Sunday afternoon.

Leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC), Maoist Center, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal faction and JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav faction gathered at Singha Durbar Sunday with their citizenship for the purpose of signing the petition to be submitted at the SC against parliament dissolution.

The writ was prepared on behalf of the 149 lawmakers to make NC President Deuba the prime minister.

Lawyers including Govinda Bandi and Khamba Khati prepared the draft of the writ petition.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved the parliament on Saturday early morning and announced mid-term elections for November 12 and November 19 on the recommendation of the cabinet.
