HoR dissolution non-political: Maoist Chairman Dahal

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has expressed concern over the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the announcement of snap election, arguing that there was still the situation that new government could have been formed.

Issuing a press statement on Saturday, party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ reminded that Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba was proposed for the new prime minister with the submission of the signatures of 149 HoR members in his support.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday announced the election date for November 12 and 19, reasoning that both KP Sharma Oli and Deuba failed to present themselves with strong support while proposing themselves as new prime minister in line with Article 76 (5) of the constitution.

Chairman Dahal also urged all political parties and civil society to protest the HoR dissolution. He, however, said all sides need to concentrate efforts on controlling coronavirus at a time when country is suffering worst with COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, different political parties and their youth associations also protested the HoR dissolution. They argued that government invited the constitutional crisis by dissolving HoR while Sher Bahadur Deuba was proposed as new prime minister with the support of 149 HoR members as per President’s call.

Those to join the protest were Chairman of Nepal Tarun Dal, Jit Jung Basnet; Chairman of YCL, Ram Prasad Sapkota; Naresh Kumar Shahi of Youth Association Nepal and others. RSS
