NC General Secy Koirala protests House dissolution

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Prof. Dr. Shashank Koirala has objected to the dissolution of the parliament by the President Friday night.

Issuing a statement Saturday, he lodged his protest against the move.

Stating that 149 signatures were submitted in favor of Nepali NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Koirala said that the President had dissolved parliament when there existed the possibility of forming a government as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution.

“I oppose the President’s unconstitutional move and appeal to all to save the country from being pushed into turmoil and to defend the constitution,” the statement read.

He also said that the President and the Prime Minister trampled the people’s aspirations with their moves against the spirit of public mandate and constitution. He refused to push the country to the polls in an unconstitutional manner amidst the ongoing coronavirus health crisis.
