Cement factories production output less than their capacity: NRB report



KATHMANDU: Cement industries running across the country have failed to produce cement to meet their net production capacity, according to a report by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Friday.

There are a total of 55 cement industries in the country and have produced 7.49 million metric tons against their net production capacity of 15 million metric tons, according to the report ‘Foreign investment in Nepal’s cement industries: A study of socio-economic impact’ made public here on Friday.

There is a demand for 9.05 million metric tons of cement in the domestic market. The country has imported 1.56 million metric tons from foreign countries to meet the demand of cement in the country.

The average production capacity of a cement industry that has attracted foreign direct investment is 45.81 percent and that of those industries with the investment of government and private sectors is 50.12 percent and 63.78 percent respectively.
