PM Oli-Thakur agree to form task force to amend constitution

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur have agreed to form a five-member task force to amend the constitution.

The two sides – PM Oli and Mahantha faction of the JSP – have reached an agreement in principle to form a five-member task force to amend the constitution, a JSP leader said.

The task force is likely to be formed today itself, the leader said. He, however, did not disclose the time period of the task force and the status of its members.

The Madhes-centric parties, which have been voicing dissent since the drafting of the constitution, had been demanding amendments to it.

According to the leader, the constitution could be amended on the basis of necessity and justification.
