KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has held discussions with public health experts, private sector stakeholders and chiefs of security agencies in Baluwatar Saturday on the coronavirus pandemic that has been claiming nearly 200 lives daily in the past few days.

This is the first time such a meeting is held following the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, which has forced authorities across the country to impose prohibitory orders to break the chain of virus transmission.

PM Oli, who was re-appointed Prime Minister Friday, convened the meeting at a time when the national health infrastructure is fully strained and at the tipping point, with the country steadily diagnosing above 8,000 virus cases since past week.

Politicians had been involved in forming and toppling the government for the past month and at the same time, the second wave of coronavirus hit the nation.

With PM Oli’s swearing-in Friday, the nation seems to float on stability for a while and the government has turned its focus on managing the pandemic.

The meeting is expected to chalk out a unified strategy to tackle the raging pandemic.
