US to provide Nepal additional US $10 mln in its fight against COVID-19



WASHINGTON: American senators have dwelled on the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic in Nepal and possible assistance for it in its fight against COVID-19.

The lawmakers in a meeting of the Foreign Relations Committee under the United States Senate on Wednesday discussed the issue of Nepal which is currently reeling under the COVID-19 and American assistance to the country in its fight against the pandemic.

Speaking at the meeting, Geremy Konyndyk, the Executive Director of USAID Senate Taskforce formed to support COVID-19-hit countries, said the US has allocated US $10 million (around NRs 1.2 billion).

Geremy informed that the assistance including the vaccines would be provided to Nepal under the COVID-19 Response Emergency Fund.

In the meeting, three senators had asked what assistance the US is providing to Nepal in its fight against COVID-19.

In response, Executive Director Geremy said the US has put Nepal in priority for assistance against COVID-19.
