Former banker Niraj Shrestha succumbs to coronavirus



KATHMANDU: Former banker Niraj Shrestha has died of COVID-19 infection.

Shrestha died at Birendra Police Hospital, Maharajgunj this afternoon. He did not have any other complex diseases.

“He was hospitalized for a week and was given Remdesivir treatment,” said a source close to him. Shrestha needed a ventilator on Tuesday.

There was a problem getting a ventilator at the right time.

Earlier, Shrestha’s father had died due to coronavirus.

Shrestha’s wife and daughter are in New Delhi. They were also infected a few days ago. They are coming to Kathmandu today.

Shrestha was previously the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Machhapuchhre Bank. After that, he was the CEO of Sunrise Bank for some time. Shrestha started his career at Standard Chartered Bank.
