KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of the Nepal-Khanal faction of the ruling CPN-UML have decided to resign en-masse by 9 am tomorrow.
According to a highly-placed source, a Standing Committee meeting of the disgruntled faction held on Tuesday took a decision to this effect.
President Bidya Bhandari has given a three-day deadline to the parties to form a coalition government after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli failed to secure the vote of confidence on Monday.
The deadline is expiring at 9 pm Thursday.
Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and Yadav-Bhattarai faction of the Janata Samajwadi Party are rendering efforts to form a coalition government under the leadership of Sher Bahadur Deuba, while assessing the possible step to be taken by the Nepal-Khanal faction.
UML leader Nepal had met with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence in Budhanilkantha on Tuesday night.
Leader Nepal had assured Deuba that his faction is ready to take any kinds of steps if the new government is formed under his leadership.
As many as 28 lawmakers of the Nepal-Khanal faction had violated the party whip.
But, the establishment faction has not taken action against them so far.
The Nepal-Khanal faction has now been decisive for the formation of the new government.
