Kalimati veggie market shutting down

KATHMANDU: Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market is pulling its shutter in view of the coronavirus infection spread going out of hands.

Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market Development Board issued a notice in this regard Tuesday. Executive Director of the Board Binod Kumar Bhattarai informed that the decision to close the market was taken as per the decision of the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

It has been decided to close the farmers’ market from today, retail trade in the wholesale market from Wednesday and retail market from Thursday. However, sale of packaged vegetables and fruits will be allowed in the wholesale market by adhering to social distancing and health safety protocols.

The Boad also banned entry of motorcycles, bicycles and carts at the market premises. Big businesses have been instructed to conduct business through auction racks and holding racks by adopting health safety measures.

The vegetable market was open from 3 am to 9 am after prohibitory order came into effect in three districts of Kathmandu Valley on April 29.
