Bhaktapur DAO seeks clarification from International Hospital over two deaths



BHAKTAPUR: The District Administration Office (DAO), Bhaktapur has proceeded towards an investigation into the alleged negligence of Kaushaltar-based Bhaktapur International Hospital at Madhyapur Thimi-3 in the deaths of two Covid-19 patients.

Assistant Chief District Officer Mukesh Kumar Keshari said the office wrote to the hospital on Sunday, seeking clarification on the matter.

“We have proceeded towards the investigation and we are right now not in the position of talking in detail about the issue. This is the part of the investigation and we will go for further action once the hospital responds to the letter.’’

The 15-bed hospital is alleged of admitting patients more than its capacity. According to a source, 28 Covid-19 patients were admitted to the hospital on Thursday when it was running out of medical oxygen since the afternoon.

At night, visitors of ICU patients and those on the ventilator support were asked to shift the patients to somewhere else.

A 45-year-old male of Kamalbinayak of Bhaktapur who was on the ventilator support had allegedly died due to the lack of oxygen supply a 60-year-old male from Pokhara breathed his last while being taken to Jawalakhel-based Alka Hospital.

Relatives of the deceased have accused that the patient was taken out of ICU forcefully and they were asked to shift him somewhere without referral documents.
