KATHMANDU: The Council of Ministers meeting held on Saturday evening has decided to use the new building of Bir Hospital as a dedicated unified command hospital, the focal hospital to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
“The government is committed to protect life of citizens. We are also planning to establish other hospitals across country into COVID hospitals. We will update you more on this later,” said government Spokesperson Parbat Gurung.
According to the sources, the Ministry of Health and Population will take over Bir Hospital to operate it by making it the central COVID-19 hospital with 500 beds.
“A COVID-19 ‘War Room’ will be constructed in the new building so as to coordinate all activities to be executed to combat against coronavirus pandemic from here,” a source said earlier. The ward converted into ‘War Room’ will coordinate everything including the discussion, mobilization of health workers, bed and other health materials, among others.
Ministry of Health had submitted the proposal of the intent which was mentioned in Prime Minister KP Oli’s address to the nation earlier.
