Sapkota, NC Deuba to boycott Constitutional Council meeting



KATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, leader of the main opposition, will not attend the meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) convened by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday.

The case filed by Speaker Sapkota against a CC-related ordinance and appointments to constitutional bodies is under consideration in the Supreme Court. Press Adviser to the Speaker said Shridhar Neupane said Sapkota will not participate in the CC meeting until his case is not settled.

Leader of the main opposition Deuba will also abstain from the meeting. NC Joint General Secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said it was not appropriate to run the government through ordinances.
