Minister Gurung urges media to play role of catalyst



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has urged media to play the role of a catalyst to Nepali people by providing right information as well as to make Nepali people happy through the peace, prosperity and development activities.

In a message of greetings on the occasion of the Sixth National Journalism Day, 121 years of publication of Gorkhapatra, Minister Gurung expressed his hope that media would play a more important role in strengthening democracy, peace and prosperity along with country’s sovereignty, integrity, national unity and social justice.

Praising mass media’s role in movements launched to establish rights of people and the federal democratic republic, he said that the government was committed to the implementation of fully press freedom, rights of opinion and expressions and information and communication and all provisions relating to mass media.

“I hope that mass media would materialise the campaign, ‘Communication for Prosperity’ helping realise country’s goals of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis’. The government wants to make media more respectable, responsible and prestigious. For this, the government always has expectation of support and help from all stakeholders”, added Minister Gurung.

Expressing his gratitude to media-persons who have carried out their duty to save people’s lives putting their life at risk amid Covid-19 pandemic, he extended his best wishes of progress and prosperity to them.
