KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has urged the government to introduce a security and incentive package to encourage the health manpower to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

On his Wednesday’s tweet related to the shortage of manpower in the health facilities, the former Health Minister has stated that manpower is the most important aspect of health infrastructure.

“Health system is not just about the physical infrastructure and beds,” Thapa has tweeted, “Manpower is the most important aspect of it.”

He has reminded that there is ready-made health manpower with the ability and experience to work at the time of national disaster provided they are encouraged to join the sector again.

Lawmaker Thapa also urged Prime Minister KP Oli not to be stingy in mobilizing health manpower.

“Let’s ensure that the manpower working in private health institutions also get more facilities and security from the management and the government,” he said, adding, “Declaration on government part does not work at all.”

The government had also decided to mobilize retired health workers in the epidemic.

He had urged the government to come with more lucrative security and incentive packages for the front-liners in the battle against COVID-19.
