KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has objected to the ‘mysterious’ admission of Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal lawmaker Khim Bahadur Shahi in the COVID-19 treatment ward of Charak Hospital, Pokhara.
Janamorcha lawmaker Shahi, supposedly prepared to vote for the no-confidence motion filed against Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung had been mysteriously out of contact at the crucial hour of discussion on the motion.
The province assembly meeting was postponed when Janamorcha filed a request to the Speaker asking him to intensify a search of the ‘missing’ lawmaker prior to taking the discussion on the motion ahead.
After the postponement, Shahi was found undergoing treatment at Charak Hospital, Pokhara.
Shahi who had tested COVID-19 negative in the swab tested at a public hospital was handed over a COVID-19 positive report by Charak Hospital and was admitted to the ward.
NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma has criticized the government for mockery of law and order and misuse of power and has also demanded a probe on the issue.
“Why are healthy people not allowed to see anyone in the ICU of Charak Hospital in Prithvi Chowk?” Spokesperson Sharma has questioned describing the act as state-protected hooliganism executed to prolong Chief Minister Gurung’s days in power.
