COVID-19 wreaks havoc in Nepal; death toll doubles every single day



KATHMANDU: The death toll from COVID-19 is doubling every single day in Nepal with the number of cases increasing in an alarming rate, of late.

If the statistics of the past one week maintained by the Ministry of Health and Population is analyzed in the country, the number of deaths has increased unprecedentedly.

On April 20, three people had died from COVID-19 across the country, six had died from the pandemic on April 21, and five each had died on April 22 and 23.

Similarly, the number of deaths had increased to 14 on April 24 and the death toll soared to 28 on April 25 and 12 on April 26 taking death tally to 3,176.

Similarly, the number of infection cases is also increasing unprecedentedly in the country, the Ministry said.

Nepal recorded a total of 3,556 new cases of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, taking the caseload to 303,561 in the country.

According to Dr Jageshwor Gautam, the spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, 3,442 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 through the RT-PCR method while 114 have been tested positive through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry, 1,567 persons in Kathmandu, 223 in Lalitpur, and 122 in Bhaktapur have tested positive for the pandemic virus, as of Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, 378 persons have returned home after complete health recovery today.

According to the Ministry, the recovery rate from COVID-19 across the country is at 92.5 percent.
