KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ has taken an oath of office and secrecy.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Thapa as per article 80 of the Constitution, said Rup Narayan Bhattarai, spokesperson of the President’s Office.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timilsina were also present at the swearing-in ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas on Sunday.
After the CPN (Maoist Center) took action, Thapa lost his ministerial post along with National Assembly lawmaker status Sunday. However, he was recommended for an appointment by Prime Minister Oli today itself.
Accordingly, President Bhandari reappointed Badal as Home Minister.
Thapa has been appointed as a minister as per Article 78 of the constitution. He will now be able to be a minister for six months.
The Maoist Center had taken action against him after he joined the CPN-UML. Thapa was elected to the National Assembly from Bagmati Province. Badal, who joined the then Maoist-led government, was also the home minister.
