NEW DELHI: India’s Delhi and Maharashtra broke their records of the highest single-day spike on Saturday.

Together, the cities recorded nearly 91,500 new Covid-19 cases.

The daily cases in India were less than 10,000 in the first week of February, according to India Today.

Delhi was reporting around 100-150 cases back then, it said.

The number of active Covid-19 in India has surpassed the 16-lakh mark.

The tally of active Covid-19 cases has climbed to 16,79,740 in India, according to India Today.

Acknowledging the crisis, the Union Health Ministry said India is seeing a “sharp growth” rate of COVID-19 deaths while the cases too are rising “alarmingly”.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the Delhi government has made home quarantine of 14 days mandatory for Delhi residents returning from the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, according to the report.
