Opposition parties in Gandaki to call for special session



POKHARA: Chief Minister of Gandaki Pradesh Prithvi Subba Gurung has ended the ongoing session of the Province Assembly after being tipped off that opposition parties including Nepali Congress (NC) are filing a no confidence motion against him.

Lawmakers of four opposition parties – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastria Janamorcha (RJM) were preparing to lodge a no confidence motion in the parliament secretariat on Thursday.

Currently, four opposition parties NC, Maoist Center, JSP and RJM are holding a meeting on possible ways to the current political deadlock.  According to NC leader Krishna Chandra Nepali, the parties are preparing to call for a special session.

“We have strongly condemned the government’s decision to end the session abruptly,” said Nepali, adding, “We are preparing to demand a special session of the Provincial Assembly.”

“The government is escaping fearing to face the no confidence motion. It cannot escape forever,” said Nepali

In the 60-member province assembly of Gandaki Pradesh, CPN-UML has 27 lawmakers, NC has 15, Maoist Center (12), RJM (three) and JSP has two.

There will be 32 lawmakers if the NC, Maoist Center, RJM and JSP unite.

As many as 31 lawmakers are required to file a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Gurung.
