Gandaki’s CM Gurung ends assembly session



POKHARA: The government of Gandaki Pradesh has ended the ongoing session of the Province Assembly.

Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung ended the session after knowing that a no confidence motion was being filed against him.

A cabinet meeting of the provincial government took a decision to this effect on Wednesday evening.

Chief Minister Gurung-led government was rendered into minority after Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) led by Chitra Bahadur KC pulled out of the government of Gandaki Pradesh.

Lawmakers of four opposition parties – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party and RJM –lodged a no confidence motion against Gurung at 10 am, it is learnt.

The provincial government said the session has been ended in line with Article 183 of the Constitution.

In the 60-member province assembly of Gandaki Pradesh, CPN-UML has 27 lawmakers, NC has 15, Maoist Center (12), RJM (three) and JSP has two.

There will be 32 lawmakers if the NC, Maoist Center, RJM and JSP unite.

As many as 31 lawmakers are required to file a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Gurung.
