KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) leaders Upendra Yadav and Babu Ram Bhattarai have met Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba at latter’s residence in Budhanilkantha Tuesday.
According to sources, JSP leaders reached Budhanilkantha at around 4 pm and are holding talks with NC President Deuba on new power-sharing agreement. The meeting comes after the JSP reached a consensus to form a government under its leadership.
A few days ago Deuba called a three-party meeting, where he proposed forming a new government under the leadership of NC. The CPN (Maoist Center) supported the proposal, however, JSP leaders sought some time for internal discussion on the power-sharing proposal.
Earlier today, a meeting of JSP office-bearers held in Kathmandu decided to lead the new government, a JSP leader confided with Khabarhub. The party is, however, undecided as to who – Dr. Baburam Bhattarai or Mahanta Thakur — would become the Prime Minister.
Even though the two factions led by Chairman Upendra Yadav and Chairman of the Federal Council Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and another led by Chairman Mahanta Thakur and senior leader Rajendra Mahato remained adamant about their respective stance in the meeting, they have agreed to form the government under JSP’s leadership.
Chairman Thakur and senior leader Mahato have argued that since Prime Minister KP Oli had initiated the process of addressing their demands, it would not be wise to publicize any decisions now.
However, the faction led by Yadav and Bhattarai claimed that the government led by PM Oli should be toppled at any cost.
