Fire at furniture industry destroys property worth over Rs 5 million



KHOTANG: Fire that broke out at a furniture industry here has destroyed furniture and other materials worth over Rs 5 million.

The fire started at Ganesh Furniture Industry at Ratnapark, Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality-1 at around 4.30 am today.

Police have estimated the damage to be Rs 5.08 million.

The furniture industry is operated by a local Harka Raj Rai. Preliminary investigation showed that the fire started from an electric short circuit, Chief of the District Police Office Khotang, Deputy Superintendent Narayan Prasad Chimoriya said.

The machinery equipment, ready-made furniture, timber, and other materials were destroyed by the fire. It took around two hours to contain the fire.

Nepali Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force personnel, and the locals doused the fire with the help of the municipality’s fire engine.

The nearby houses were spared as the fire was brought under control before it could spread out, according to locals.
