PM says Speaker holding MCC bill hostage; challenges Prachanda to withdraw support (with video)

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli has heavily criticized the Speaker for not putting to vote the Millennium Challenge Corporation bill in the parliament.

Addressing a program organized by Nepal Utpidit Jatiya Mukti Samaj in Kathmandu Monday, the PM said that MCC bill should be decided by the parliament but Speaker Agni Sapkota was holding the bill by not presenting it for a vote. He also slammed the Nepali Congress for not speaking up against the Speaker’s action.

On the occasion, PM Oli reiterated his stance of not resigning and challenged the Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to withdraw support to the government.

Meanwhile, he asked senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal to do some soul searching and return to the party.

PM Oli said any leader undergoing introspection and wishing to return will be welcomed in the party. He, however, mentioned that there was no place for factional politics, referring to the Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal-led disgruntled faction of the UML.

“We have not yet expelled you totally from the party. So do some soul-searching and return to the party,” PM Oli said. He warned the party would not strike deals with factions or group.

UML Chair Oli was of the view that Nepal and other disgruntled leaders needed to self-analyze their actions and activities before returning to the party.

“Carrying out activities against the party is unacceptable. I am observing as to when you will cross the line,” he warned.
