KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Dr. Bhim Rawal has alleged that Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Oli has been abusing power and threatening people’s representatives of action if they did not back him up.
“It is found that party Chairman Oli has started threatening elected representatives of action if they did not support him,” Dr. Rawal said at a press conference at the Far-Western Provincial Party office on Sunday afternoon.
He added that the PM Oli is forcing elected representatives of wards and municipalities, among other levels, serving in various positions to join his faction by threatening action against them.
He remarked it is reprehensible that the PM is abusing his power to issue threats and intimidation against party leaders.
Dr. Rawal further said that the post of elected representatives could not be vacated by the Prime Minister.
“The party can take action against elected representatives only if the latter defect to other parties or act against national interest,” he said, adding, “Unless the representatives commit such acts, they cannot be removed from their posts.”
Referring to the action taken against him by the party Chair, Rawal told that the action contradicted with the spirit and the directives of the party’s 9th General Convention, hence, it is invalid.
