KATHMANDU: The government today vowed to expedite the investigation process of the controversial Baluwatar land scam that involves ruling party’s General Secretary Bishnu Poudel.

By saying so, government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Gokul Baskota  categorically meant that the government would not spare anyone, ‘be it a Nepal Communist Party leader of a Nepali Congress bigwig’.

“The government will reach to a conclusion, come what may,” Minister Baskota told the press today.

“Be assured, the government will not recoil from its stance,” Minister Baskota told journalists at the regular press briefing at Singha Durbar on Thursday.

He said even though the names of Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Bishnu Poudel and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba have been reportedly involved in the scam, the investigation will not be affected at any cost.

“Forget about who they are or what their contributions are, the government will not compromise,” Minister Baskota said. He, however, appreciated their contribution to the democratic struggle.

“Let me remind you about the contribution of Prithivi Narayan Shah. But this does not mean that the government will overlook his descendants’ wrongdoings,” Minister Baskota said, “The same implies to Poudel and Deuba.”

He asserted that the government will bring back its property in its name, come what may. “Let me assure you that the government is not in a mind to compensate to those persons who have bought the land as what has been reported,” he said.

It should be noted that the government had earlier formed an investigation committee under Sharada Prasad Trital, a former government secretary following reports that some plots of land at Baluwatar were transferred to the names of some influential people.
