IPL 2021: Bangalore beats Mumbai by 2 wickets



KATHMANDU: Royal Challengers Bangalore has defeated Mumbai Indians by two wickets in the inaugural match of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Chasing a 160-run target, Bangalore achieved it in the allotted 20 overs losing eight wickets in the first match held in Chennai on Friday.

Bangalore’s AB Deviliiers top-scored with 48 runs including four fours and two sixes off 27 balls. Similarly, Glenn Maxwell made 39 runs off 28 balls while Captain Virat Kohli contributed 33 runs.

In reply, Mumbai’s Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen took two wickets each of Bangalore.

Earlier, Electing to bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai had notched 159 runs losing nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Chris Lynn made highest 49 runs including four fours and three sixes off 35 balls for Mumbai.

Bangalore’s Harshal Patel grabbed five wickets of Mumbai giving away 27 runs in four overs.
