Karnali Province: CPN-UML ministers to resign soon

CM Mahendra Bahadur Shahi's govt in crisis

KATHMANDU: Minister of the CPN-UML party in the Karnali Province government are resigning en masse soon.

The ministers, at a meeting of the parliamentary party meeting Sunday, said they would resign in a couple of days.

With this, the provincial government led by Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has been in a grave crisis.

A meeting of the parliamentary party on March 17 decided to withdraw the support given to the government.

The Madhav Nepal faction, however, said it would continue to support the government.

Likewise, the meeting also urged Chief Minister Shahi to step down to pave the way for the formation of a new government, according to Chief Whip Gulab Jung Shah.

The CPN-UML has 20 seats in the 39-member Karnali State Assembly out of which nine lawmakers are close to the Madhav Nepal faction.

Similarly, while the Maoist Center has 12 seats, the Nepali Congress has six seats. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has one lawmaker.
