Police say DNA report of vaginal swab of Bhagarathi matches with arrested teenager



KATHMANDU: The DNA report of vaginal swab of Baitadi’s Bhagarathi Bhatta has matched with that of the accused.

Bhagarathi was murdered after rape on February 3 when she was returning home from school.

She had gone missing while on the way back from Sanatan Dharma Secondary School, police said.

According to the Spokesperson at the Far West Police Office SSP Mukesh Kumar Singh, the report from the National Forensic Science Laboratory has showed that the DNA of vaginal swab matched with that of the teenager, who is currently at a correctional facility in Dipayal.

The police had made the accused public on February 17 organizing a press conference.

While Bhagarathi was a 12th grader, the accused is an 11th-grader studying at the same school.

Bhagarathi’s body was found in a forest.

The youth had told the police that he had raped and murdered Bhagarathi to take revenge.
