Chinese Ambassador Yanqi swings into action yet again; meets Prachanda and Nepal

KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi on Monday made a harried move to reach Khumaltar and held talks with Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”.

According to sources, Yanqi reached Khumaltar and held talks on the current political developments and government formation with Prachanda. “The meeting dwelled on the latest political developments of Nepal,” a source said, adding that she suggested the leader not to topple the communist party-led government.

The source further stated that Chinese Ambassador Yanqi also took stock of the latest scenario.

Likewise, she also met with CPN-UML Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and discussed the political developments and suggested him to give continuity to the communist party-led government.

This is not the first time that the Chinese Ambassador has met with leaders of the communist parties. Earlier too, Chinese Ambassador Yanqi had held political meetings at the time when the intra-party feud of the NCP had reached a new height.

She had earlier met Prachanda after President Bidhya Devi Bhandari dissolved the Parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli-led government on December 20 last year.

Ambassador Yanqi swings into action as the communist parties are involved in wrangling or any dispute in the party reaches a climax.

It should be noted that as the feud within the then NCP had heightened, Chinese Ambassador Yanqi had become proactive in Kathmandu by making harried moves to visit communist party big-wigs.

Political observers have to note that China, like in the past, has been particularly concerned over the political row, particularly within the communist parties, and the latest political developments here in Nepal.

It may be noted that Yanqi has been accustomed to intensifying meetings with top-notch leaders.

She had also met and discussed with the NCP top leaders, including NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal, in May last year when the then NCP party was on the verge of a split.

The China government’s move about the micromanagement of Nepali politics has drawn international attention towards Nepal, of late, observers say.

Observers in Nepal dub the ambassador’s moves as unusual while some have taken it as an apparent move as this is a mere continuation of such initiations that have taken in the past.
