Talks between PM Oli and JSP leaders “positive”; next meeting on Friday



KATHMANDU: Talks between Prime Minister KP Oli and leaders of the Janata Samajbadi Party ended on a positive note with the latter expressing their commitment to cooperate with the government if their demands were met.

The three-hour-long talks held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday evening basically focused on the issues raised by the Madhes-based parties.

Top leaders of the party, including Federal Council Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Central Council Chairman Mahanta Thakur and Upendra Yadav, Rajendra Mahato and Ashok Rai had reached Baluwatar to hold talks with PM Oli.

The JSP leaders expressed their commitment to cooperate with the government if the latter fulfilled their demands, including the release of its leader Resham Chaudhary, constitution amendment, among others.

PM Oli’s Press Advisor Surya Thapa said the talks remained positive.

He said that the two parties – JSP and the CPN-UML – would hold another round of informal discussions Friday.
