UML and Maoist Center leaders decide to part ways

KATHMANDU: A Standing Committee meeting of the Prachanda-Nepal of the Nepal Communist Party has decided to part ways and join their respective parties – the CPN-UML and the former CPN (Maoist Center).

Leader Jhala Nath Khanal said that the decision was taken at the Standing Committee meeting held in Parisdanda Monday.

Khanal said that the UML and the Maoist Center will move forward on their own. He added, “We completely disagree with the SC’s decision since it was more political than constitutional. But we have no choice than to accept it.”

Meanwhile, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal had attended the meeting with the list of the Central Working Committee of the CPN-UML party.

Prior to this, the group led by leader Nepal had an internal discussion at a hotel in Baneswor.

A member of the group said that they would return to the CPN-UML and fight the ‘KP Oli tendency’.

Earlier, the leaders of the erstwhile CPN-UML had walked out of the Standing Committee meeting after expressing their views.

The meeting was called to discuss the political situation after the Supreme Court’s decision on the NCP’s authority.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction convened the meeting to discuss the party’s future strategy after the Supreme Court authorized the Rishi Kattel-led NCP on Sunday.

During today’s meeting, some leaders of the then CPN-UML had also emphasized narrowing down differences between KP Oli and NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”.

Leaders of former UML including Asta Laxmi Shakya, Surendra Pandey, Raghuji Pant, Yogesh Bhattarai, Ghanshyam Bhusal and others have already left the meeting.
