SC verdict on NCP unexpected: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prachanda-Nepal faction Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has commented that the Supreme Court’s decision to revive former NCP (UML) and NCP (Maoist) as “unexpected”.

Speaking to the media persons at the Parliament Secretariat on Sunday, Prachanda said that the SC verdict has been quite different from what they had though of.

“I have not gone through the full text of the verdict yet, so it is not right time to comment much on it, but the decision has been quite different from our expectation,” Prachanda said.

He assured to offer official comment on it after going through the SC verdict.

Giving its verdict on long pending dispute related to the recognition of NCP, the SC declared Rishi Kattel’s NCP as the authentic on Sunday.

The verdict has refused to recognize the unification of former UML and Maoist and has said that they should go to the Election Commission again if they want to unify the party and get a new name.
