Govt, Biplav group to hold talks

KATHMANDU: Reciprocating the government’s decision of forming a talk team, the Netra Bikram Chand-led group has formed a team to hold talks with the government.

Biplav’s team, led by the group’s Spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma ‘Prakanda’ with Uday Chalaune “Deepak” as the member will hold talks with the government.

However, the Biplav group said it would ask the government to release its cadres and leaders as a precondition during the talks.

Likewise, the other condition would be to lift the ban imposed on the party, it said.

The government had on Tuesday decided to hold talks with the Biplav group.

Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology said it has formed a two-member talks team led by Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa.

Prime Minister KP Oli’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Rajan Bhattarai is a member of the committee.

The government had banned the Biplav group in 2019 citing what it said “terrorist” activities.

A recent cabinet meeting had decided to initiate talks with the group to bring them to the peace process.
