KATHMANDU: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) has been scheduled for March 7 after the Supreme Court issued a 13-day deadline to summon the house meeting, reversing the Oli-led government’s decision to dissolve the HoR.
Prime Minister KP Oli has publicly stated that he will not resign from his post arguing that the country will slide into a perpetual abyss if he steps down.
PM Oli has said he will foil the no confidence motion to be filed by the Prachanda-Nepal faction claiming that 63 percent of the lawmakers are in his support in the parliament.
On the other hand, Prachanda-Nepal faction is all set to oust Prime Minister Oli by lodging a no confidence motion against him in the upcoming house meeting. As things stand, it is not easy for them to do so without taking the support from main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP).
Senior leader of JSP Rajendra Mahato has said that they would not join the bandwagon of no confidence motion until the ruling NCP is legally divided.
Echoing to Mahato’s voice, NC leader Ramesh Lekhak said neither factions of the NCP is in the position to form the next government unless the party is divided legally.
Both the NCP factions have been wooing NC and JSP lawmakers to stand in support of their motion following the reinstatement of the parliament.
NC and JSP have been reiterating that the Prachanda-Nepal faction must reach a written agreement prior to the House meeting if Prime Minister Oli is to be ousted through the no confidence motion.
