Nepali, Indian officials hold district-level consultation on border security



KATHMANDU: The Nepali and Indian authorities have agreed to exchange information on curbing trans-border crime and smuggling of illegal weapons and contraband as well as on maintaining law and order along the border areas.

This agreement was reached in the meeting of the Nepal and India District-level Border security Coordination Committee. The meeting was held in Jhulaghat of India on Thursday.

Chief of Baitadi District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent Narayan Prasad Adhikari said agreement has been made according to which both countries would work in coordination to prevent the criminal activities along the border, exchange information before and after the disaster, controlling revenue leakage and stepping up checking on the border, among other pertinent issues.

DSP Adhikari, Armed Police Force (APF) Baitadi District Chief Ganesh Shah and representatives of the Customs Office from the Nepal side and Vice-commander of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), RK Rajeshwori and the representatives of Indian Police and Customs from the Indian side participated in the meeting.

Although it was agreed in the meeting of the Committee held last February to convene the meeting in every three months, the meeting has been held after a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
