Security Council holding meeting amid political crisis

KATHMANDU: Amid the ongoing political crisis, a meeting of the Security Council has been slated for Tuesday morning.

Security Council Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli has summoned a meeting dubbed as ‘regular’ for 9:30 am today.

The meeting will discuss the current political developments and the upcoming elections.

Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa will attend the meeting.

There is a constitutional provision for the National Security Council to be chaired by the Prime Minister to formulate policies related to the overall national interest, security, and defense, and to recommend to the government for the mobilization or control of the Nepal Army.
