Province-1 row: Motion of no-confidence tabled against Chief Minister Rai

BIRATNAGAR: A no-confidence motion has been presented in the Province 1 Assembly against Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai for discussion.

Lawmaker Indra Bahadur Angbo tabled the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Rai in the meeting of the state parliament on Sunday in accordance with Article 188 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal and 129 (1) of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly 2074 BS.

Earlier, Chief Minister Rai, ministers and lawmakers close to Prime Minister KP Oli had decided to boycott the meeting saying that the State Assembly cannot function in the current situation.

Chief Minister Rai had earlier asked Speaker Pradip Bhandari to postpone the meeting of the Province Assembly by pasting a notice.

However, the Speaker had published the agenda rejecting CM Rai’s proposal.

A discussion was held between CM Rai and Speaker Bhandari at the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday morning.

During the discussion, Chief Minister Rai had urged Speaker Bhandari not to take the no-confidence motion forward in the current situation.

Speaker Bhandari, however, said that the meeting should not be postponed as the agenda to table the no-confidence motion was already set.
