Province 1 Chief Minister, ministers and lawmakers to boycott parliament meeting

BIRATNAGAR: Chief Minister of Province 1 Sherdhan Rai, ministers and lawmakers close to Prime Minister KP Oli have decided to boycott Sunday’s state assembly meeting in Province 1.

They have also decided to register a statement in the Parliament Secretariat informing that they would not attend the meeting saying that the State Assembly cannot function in the current situation.

Earlier, the Province 1 Parliament Secretariat had decided to present a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Rai.

Chief Minister Rai had earlier asked Speaker Pradip Bhandari to postpone the meeting of the Province Assembly by pasting a notice.

However, the Speaker published the agenda rejecting CM Rai’s proposal.

The third meeting of the winter session of the State Assembly was called for today afternoon.

The agenda for Sunday’s meeting is to table a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Rai.

A discussion was held between CM Rai and Speaker Bhandari at the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday morning.

During the discussion, Chief Minister Rai had urged Speaker Bhandari not to take the no-confidence motion forward in the current situation.

Speaker Bhandari, however, said that the meeting should not be postponed as the agenda to table the no-confidence motion was already set.
