Shekhar Koirala warns PM not to coerce constitutional bodies

KATHMANDU: Central Committee member of Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Shekhar Koirala has warned Prime Minister KP Oli not to abuse his power to coerce the constitutional bodies and the citizens.

Speaking at a program in Morang on Sunday, Dr. Koirala said that PM Oli’s latest activities denote his frailty and prove that Oli has taken to dictatorship.

“PM Oli’s latest remarks show how frail the PM — once entertaining two-third-majority — has become now,” NC leader Dr. Koirala said, adding, “When a dictator feels he is failing, he starts threatening others abusing the state mechanism.”

It should be recalled that PM Oli had said that the Election Commission should give the election symbol “Sun” to his faction at a program in Biratnagar on Saturday.

He had also warned of launching an agitation if the Supreme Court gave its verdict in favor of reinstating the House of Representatives.

Dr. Koirala also asked the constitutional bodies and the people not to panic with the remarks made by PM Oli and asked them to use their conscience.

He further accused the government of frightening the people abusing state power and using NCP’s “cyber army”.
