Jure landslide victim hold sit-in seeking relief

KATHMANDU: Not getting relief even after seven years of the Jure landslide, the landslide victims of Jure, Sindhupalchowk have taken to sit-in at Maitighar in Kathmandu seeking relief.

Kedar Chhetri, the Mayor of Balefi Rural Municipality joined the sit-in claiming that the government turned indifferent to distribute the amount collected in the name of offering relief to the Jure victims.

According to him, the landslide victims went to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Home Minister among many other office bearers seeking facilitation in helping them get the relief money collected in their name.

The massive landslide that started from Itini in Ramche of Balefi Rural Municipality had caused a heavy loss of life and property in Mankha, Jure and Tekanpur. 145 people had lost their lives due to the landslide.

Hundreds of donors from home and abroad had contributed money to the fund of the then District Disaster Relief Committee.

Although there had been 22.4 million rupees collected for the landslide victims, the victims have not got that amount yet.
