NOC coming down heavily against petroleum smuggling to India



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has decided to come strictly against the smuggling of petroleum products to India.

According to NOC officials, the corporation has directed all depots and fuel centers to keep their records of petroleum sale intact.

The source claimed that the corporation has asked all province offices to coordinate with the local police and tighten the monitoring and supervision to prevent smuggling.

In Indian towns bordering Nepal petrol and diesel are expensive by Rs 35 and Rs 41 per liter respectively than in Nepal tempting the smugglers to buy petroleum products in Nepal and sell them in Indian towns.

Nepal Police had arrested few people smuggling diesel from Nepal to India. Among the arrested included the petrol pump owner, tanker driver, and co-driver among others.

The new directives of the NOC have assigned the task of curbing the smuggling to the depot chiefs.

The depot chiefs and province officials are assigned to monitor and supervise the petrol pumps which could be used for smuggling the fuel.

During their supervision, the officials should ensure that the customer’s bills and the amount of petroleum products in the dispending machine should match with each other.
