Elections take place in democracy: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has claimed frequent elections take place in a democracy and elections are required to strengthen democracy.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Friday, PM Oli said that no political force should have a fear to go for polls while adding that the House of Representatives (HoR) was dissolved to get fresh mandate.

“Some people are claiming that democracy will cease if elections are held. Elections are inevitable in democracy,” he added.

Saying that conspiracies are being hatched to foil the election, PM Oli said that people should be aware for this.

He was of the view that the government was moving ahead by taking support from the people.

PM Oli asked the Election Commission to make speedy preparations for the polls. “Preparations for polls should be expedited to give its feeling to the people,” he added.

Likewise, he also said that conspiracies were made in the past to ignite infighting in the country, and it was needed to unite the country in unity.

“My victory is not needed. But, the people should be made winner,” PM Oli said.

As attempts were made to split the party in the name of majority, the PM said that such a move was foiled prior to the party split.

Despite efforts were made to push the country towards instability by dissolving the majority, the PM argued that he foiled such steps.

Stating that the changes ensured by the people’s movement in 2007 BS had laid foundation for many subsequent movements in the country, PM Oli asserted that although the achievements of such movements were snatched away, the rational and consciousness of the public could not be seized by anyone and anything.

“The change brought by people’s movement in 2007 BS holds the highest far-fetching importance. Other changes have been brought on its basis,” said Oli, adding that the litterateurs and poets had played a pivotal role in ending autocratic regime of the Ranas.
