NHRC directs govt. to save Gangamaya’s life



KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to give three-point directive to the government to save the life of Gangamaya Adhikari, who has been agitating for long.

The NHRC observed that its monitoring found that Ganagamaya’s health condition was deteriorating so the government needs to make special arrangement for her treatment.

Government has also been directed to form a high-level taskforce of human rights defenders and take proper move to save Gangamaya’s life.

NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel shared that the government documents showed one of the accused behind the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari – Rudra Prasad Acharya- was out of the country so government must produce Acharya before the court with due process.

Gangamaya has been staging fast-onto-death for long, demanding action against those involved in the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari.

Similarly, Gangayama has also been requested to stop her agitation in view of her deteriorating health condition.

Even the adjudication should be intensified, the NHRC Spokesperson added.
