DHARAN: Leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Dr Shekhar Koirala has questioned the significance of the mass meeting addressed by Prime Minister KP Oli in front of Narayanhity Palace and the statue of King Mahendra.

“I am shocked at the way the program was held there,” Koirala said while addressing a protest program organized by his party against the dissolution of the House of Representatives in Dharan on Monday.

“What message was PM Oli trying to give to the people by holding the mass meeting in Durbar Marga?” he questioned adding, “Are you (PM Oli) aspiring to become a king?”

Leader Koirala further asked PM Oli, “Do you want to prove that your words should become a law?”

Stating that the country was heading towards political catastrophe, NC leader Koirala alleged President Bidhya Devi Bhandari for “forgetting her dignity” while dissolving the House of Representatives.

He said that the Nepali Congress party was compelled to take to the streets as the President and Prime Minister Oli had violated the constitution.

He further said that he did not want to put pressure on the judges of the Constitutional Bench to make an impact in the verdict.

“We are convinced that the judges in the Constitutional Bench would give the verdict without losing their conscience,” he added.
