SC sets Feb 16 for court proceedings on contempt of court case against four CJs



KATHMANDU: Supreme Court has set February 16 as the date for the proceeding of the ‘contempt of court case’ filed against four chief justices (CJs).

Responding to the order of bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma demanding former CJs to appear in the court with their written replies within 7 days from, former CJ Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki reached Supreme Court with their replies on Monday.

Former CJs Min Bahadhur Rayamajhi, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki have submitted their joint reply whereas Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma has responded individually.

Despite the claim of the writ petitioner, the former CJs have reiterated that they stick to their point as their statement has not violated the laws claimed in the petition.

“We remarked as felt by our conscience and wisdom and the exercise of freedom of expression under the Constitution and the law, any attempt to controlling it cannot be tolerated,” the CJs wrote in their reply to the court.

They have claimed that no words, phrases, or any text in their statement have anything influencing the case registered in Supreme Court, hence the petition against deserves to be declared void.
