Man nabbed for trafficking woman to Sri Lanka



KATHMANDU: The Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested a man on the charge of trafficking a woman to Sri Lanka.

The arrested is identified as Khem Bahadur Subedi aged 36 years, also known as ‘Subedi Kancho’ and ‘Khem Subedi’.

Bureau Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Anurag Kumar Dwivedi said that Subedi who is a permanent resident of Bardiya was living in Kushma Municipality-2 of Parbat.

According to police, Subedi had trafficked a woman to Sri Lanka through India last year saying that she did not need to pay for employment in Kuwait.

The woman was rescued with the help of the Nepali Embassy and the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens after spending 10 months in jail in Sri Lanka.

She had lodged a complaint against Subedi with the Bureau on charges of human trafficking after arriving in Nepal.

Police said that further investigation was underway.
