KATHMANDU: Under the banner of ‘Massive Civil Movement against Regression,’ a women’s march has been organized in Kathmandu on Friday.
The agitation that started from Basantapur reached Singh Durbar expressing outrage against the government for the latter’s failure to stop violence against women, rape, and murder.
The participants demanded an end to violence against women, punishment for rapists, identifications, and stern action against perpetrators.
The demonstrators hold various placards saying ‘Women rights are human rights,’ ‘End violence and discrimination against women,’ ‘Justice for Nirmala Pant and Bhagirathi Bhatt’, etc.
Former Minister and leader of Janata Samajbadi Party Hisila Yami, National Human Rights Commission Member Mohana Ansari among many others had expressed their solidarity with the movement and joined the march.
The placards had some sarcastic slogans like ‘Whose permission do we need for breathing?’ and ‘Stay at home and don’t go out because you’re a woman’ among others.
They also chanted slogans against the ‘regressive’ actions of the KP Oli-led government.
