Dr. Koirala condemns Jhakri’s arrest, demands immediate release

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has remarked that the government has shown its authoritarian character by arresting the leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prachanda-Nepal faction Ram Kumari Jhakri.

In a tweet on Thursday, Koirala demanded her immediate release.

“The government has shown an authoritarian character by arresting Jhakri for speaking out against undemocratic and unconstitutional moves,” Koirala said in a tweet, “The longer this government lasts, the more the country is bound to fall into a state of uncertainty. I condemn the arrest and demand her immediate release.”

Police arrested Jhakri by handing over an arrest warrant under the ‘act of treason against the state’ from her Shankhamul-based residence at 1 pm today.

The arrest warrant has been handed over to her in line with Section 58 of the Treason Act.
